TESTIMONIAL BY A HAPPY PATIENT :-)
I had a growth on my right thigh which was the size of a pea when I was a kid but grew into a large 8 inch by 5 inch lump protruding 3 inches outside the thigh fifty years later.
My sister had one in her hand but never grew that big. She did a surgery to remove it but it came back after a year.
My doctors told me it was non-cancerous so I let it grow.
The big growth was more of a nuisance than anything else. It did prevent me from going down on slides or carrying big travel bags with my right hand since it would squeeze on the big growth. The growth was not hard but felt jelly like when you touched it. The bottom had an extra hemispherical end about an inch radius but filled with water like fluid.
When I was in Hawaii about a year ago, I noticed the fluid inside the growth started oozing out of the bottom of the growth during nights and stained the bed sheet with almost like a milk coffee stain. I was swimming in the ocean every day and it did not bother me. Initially the oozing was trickling for a few days but later on when I came back to home in Texas it started oozing much heavier and one night almost all the fluid inside the growth came out and the growth looked like a deflated balloon.
It turned into a serious situation with the possibility of infection and subsequent damages. My wife started calling doctors offices to make an appointment the next morning. The receptionists from two of the offices gave appointments from 10 days to 20 days later to see a doctor even after explaining the urgency of the situation. Fortunately when my very caring wife left a message at Dr. Chen’s office, she called her back within two hours and found out more details about my situation and made an appointment for us to visit her the very next day.
When we went in the next morning, Dr. Chen took us immediately with no wait into one of the rooms and examined the rupture from the growth. Dr. Chen is a cheerful and funny person and gives very high respect to each and every one of her patients as well their relatives. She did a thorough examination of my rupture and knew exactly what needed to be done for a successful surgery and recovery.
Dr. Chen numbed the ruptured wound area and started operating to remove the unwanted tissues. She would explain every step of the surgery while operating on the wound and would frequently check with me to make sure that I was comfortable. I felt that I was having a nice conversation with an extremely talented surgeon and not a surgery. It took almost three hours to remove all the unwanted tissues and skin from the affected area. She cleaned the wound and let it dry for about half an hour and let me rest for a bit. She did not take a break because she had to attend another patient. As soon as she was done with the other patient, she came back to close my open wound which was like 8 inches long by 5 inches wide. Once again she would carry on a nice conversion with us while stitching the skin to close the wound.
Dr. Chen gave very thoughtful instructions to us about what we need to do for a successful recovery. Unlike other doctors who like to sedate the patients with prescription painkillers, she advised me to take over the counter painkillers such as Motrin or Tylenol. She did not prescribe unnecessary antibiotics either. When we came back home, I took a Motrin which helped to eliminate the pain. Every day either Dr. Chen would call or text us to check on my progress. She showed my wife how to dress my surgical wound so the fluid will not be collecting inside. She even made a mini digital video on how to dress the wound in her tablet and shared that with my wife. My wife did a thorough cleaning and dressing job on my surgical wound almost every day for several weeks. I had many subsequent appointments to see Dr. Chen after the surgery. I never had to wait for her since she would see me within 5 minutes of my appointment time. She is always cheerful and shows deep respect for her patients. Dr. Chen does every aspect of her office work from greeting the patients to performing the surgery. She does have an assistant or two whenever there is a need.
Now a year later, I could carry large travel bags with my right hand and I do not have to worry about it going to hit my growth. I even went on water slides in Hawaii. The scar is very tiny for a major surgical wound and the growth did not come back as in the case of my sister.
