TESTIMONIAL BY A HAPPY PATIENT :-)
This is the story of my “stupid” keloid.
When I was a late teenager around the age of seventeen or eighteen, I decided to go with some friends to get a second hole ear piercing. In the 1990’s this was the “cool” thing to do!
I remember clearly when the lady marked and pierced my right ear; the piercing was quick and didn’t hurt much. But when she marked and pierced my left ear, the piercing gun slipped when she shot the earring in my ear and the lady apologized and fixed up my ear and I went on my way. I was excited to have my second piercing because I was “cool” now.
A few months after my second piercing had totally healed the ear began to budge and swell but it didn’t hurt.
A doctor told me the effect of the “budging” was due to me having keloid skin. This was the first time I heard I had keloid skin. Soon the keloid began to get bigger and bigger.
A few years of dealing with the new addition to my appearance, I decided to see a dermatologist to inquire what to do for the keloid on my left ear. I was told to do a series of steroid injections to shrink and soften the keloid.
After months of steroid injections, the keloid was not shrinking and therefore the dermatologist suggested having the keloid removed. I was also told I would have to continue the steroid injections after the removal to keep the keloid from returning.
I followed my doctor’s orders but years later the keloid returned. This is when I decided this was a “stupid” stubborn keloid. I waited so many years before I mustered up the nerves to have it removed again. And yes it did okay until years later it started to return.
Within a course of 20 years I had my keloid removed four times. During the process of having my steroid injections years later after the fourth time it was removed, it started to return again and this is when I was told about a doctor named Dr. Chen who could perform a new procedure on my ear called CyroShape. I spoke with Dr. Chen and I did my research and decided to go for it. I realized then that my “stupid” keloid needed to try something different because it was obvious the previous removals did not work.
The CyroShape procedure was very interesting. This was very different than the previous procedures. The procedure consists of freezing my keloid from the inside out deep inside the keloid. The outcome would result in the keloid skin dying and falling off.
The healing processed was challenging because the appearance of the keloid was not what I expected but once the keloid began to dry up and shrink, it eventually feel off. The ear looked great once the keloid was gone but I was still skeptical about if the keloid would return like before.
Well a year later with NO steroid injections, my keloid has not returned. The CyroShape procedure so far has been the best procedure for my keloid and I would recommend it to anyone.
Thanks to Dr. Chen because I no longer have to deal with that “stupid” keloid!
